Analysis of Brownian Motion

During this experiment you will observe and analyze the Brownian movement of small polystyrene beads in water. Using fluorescence and phase contrast one can visualize these particles close to the resolution limit of the microscope. The working principles of these methods are discussed in theory and used practically. Using both methods you will record movies of the moving particles. Video analysis will then be used to extract the tracks of the particles. From this data one can obtain the diffusion constant of the particles and finally their size.
